Ingredients:

  • 1 apple (cored and chopped)
  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 2 3/4 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Optional toppings: chopped walnuts, flax seed, hemp hearts, maple syrup, honey, butter

These are 2 of our favorites:

Directions:

Add all ingredients to the instant pot and pressure cook for 3 minutes. Then let it naturally release for 10 minutes. Stir and add toppings. Some of our favorite toppings are maple syrup, chopped walnuts, flax seed, hemp hearts and butter.

Tips:

Here are a few random tips that may or may not matter but its what I do, so I figured I’d share just in case.

  • Use an apple corer and slicer to quickly slice up an apple. Then chop up the slices into bite sized pieces. This is the one we have:
  • Don’t bother with peeling the apple because the apple peel cooks down so soft.
  • I like to layer my ingredients – apples, oats, cinnamon/vanilla, then lastly water. The only reason is because when I add cinnamon last, it floats in clumps on top of the water. I’m sure it all cooks in just fine, but this does keep it from depositing on the sides of the instant pot insert.

This oatmeal recipe makes for such an easy morning. Its the perfect “go-to” breakfast. Not to mention its super healthy! Leave me a comment if you try this recipe out and what toppings you like to add!
