Cloth Diaper Solutions for Toddlers
Our little baby has quickly grown into a toddler!! Where has the time gone!? He is now 18 months old and in full force all day long. He hates to stop for diaper changes and is a good, hard sleeper. He has also been a heavy wetter since day one, so this means we need some good bullet proof cloth diaper combinations to make it through the day and night without leaks.
So today I’m sharing our favorite cloth diaper solutions for toddlers for day time, nap time and night time. As babies age into toddlers, you obviously need bigger diapers and more absorbency. Hopefully you find this helpful if you’re looking for solutions as your toddler is still in diapers and not quite ready for toileting.

Day Time
During the day, our favorite cloth diaper combination is a Cloth-eez Prefold size small (yellow edge) with a cloth diaper liner and a Nicki’s Diaper cover. I love the Nicki’s Diapers One Size Snap Diaper Covers! The double gussets and inner front/back flaps help to prevent leaks. I also like being able to tuck the prefold and liner in the flaps to help hold it in place. One size means it will grow with your baby into toddlerhood, fitting from 8 to 35lbs+. I also like that it has 2 rows of waist/hip snaps for greater customization and a better fit.
(Tip: Your snaps don’t always have to be symmetrical. The beauty of having so many snaps is you can use whichever combination offers the best fit.)
Nap Time
During nap time, our favorite cloth diaper combination is a Cloth-eez Prefold size small (yellow edge) with a cloth diaper liner and a hemp booster insert inside a Nicki’s Diaper One Size Snap Diaper Cover or a Thirsties Snap Duo Wrap cover (Size 2). Both of these covers have a double gusset, which seems to offer a better fit, especially with more layers (which are needed for extra absorbency over longer stretches such as nap time).
Our hemp inserts are from Greener Odyssey. They have 4 layers of hemp and organic cotton absorbency, which can be a bit bulky but have been great with a heavy wetter. There are other brands that offer slimmer options for adding a little boost to your absorbency without the bulk. If you don’t have a heavy wetter, I definitely recommend getting a slimmer option. Also, if you didn’t know already, hemp is the most absorbent type of booster, but bamboo is next in line. If you can’t get hemp inserts (and don’t have a heavy wetter) you can try bamboo inserts instead. Here are a few options from Amazon.
Overnight
At night, our favorite cloth diaper combination is the Nicki’s Fitted Bamboo Overnight Diaper with an extra hemp booster, a cloth diaper liner and a Thirsties cover. We prefer the Thirsties Snap Duo Wrap cover (Size 2) here because it seems to fit the best over all the bulk of this overnight diaper combination. The fitted overnight diaper is super absorbent and has a snap in bamboo insert. We add the hemp insert for even more absorbency and every bit of it is completely saturated in the morning. (Thankfully we have a great sleeper – sleeping 11-12 hours through the night without waking. Hopefully I don’t jinx us by putting it in writing and fingers crossed his baby brother will be as good a sleeper as he has been from day one.) Nicki’s Diapers is currently out of stock of these overnight fitted diapers, but here are some similar ones.
Cloth Diaper Liners
Cloth diaper liners are a must for us with all combinations because it helps with that stay dry feel, makes poops easier to clean up and helps to prevent stains. Click HERE to read more on cloth diaper liners and HERE for a free printable to DIY your own liners for really cheap!
In The Diaper Bag
I still like to keep it super simple in the diaper bag if he’s going somewhere like grandparent’s house. I have a few pocket diapers prestuffed with the Cloth-eez Prefold size small cotton (yellow edge) that stay in the diaper bag with this handy Printable Cloth Diaper Snap Guide to make things easier for someone else that might be changing a diaper. (You don’t want to miss this printable. It’s been a big hit and I’ve received great feedback on how helpful it is!)
